new NEWS
9 June 2003

Many thanks to The True Love Coffeehouse for a great show last Friday. Also, to drum wizard Eric Everett for filling in with finesse! Cheers to all Davis folks who made it out.

There are rumors of a house party performance on a certain unlucky friday coming up. Stay tuned.

Eric Ruud and I subjected ourselves to 6 hours of blasting guitar yesterday  while recording leads for the album. Tasty bits for Treason, Cooler, and Lover.

Next Wednesday's show at G St Pub with Mad Cow String Band will be a farewell performance for current drummer Blair Trigg before he jets off to Italia to uh, study.

On your right is a photo of our tracking session in The Turtle House basement...noted for it's fine acoustics and oh-so tolerant residents...thanks guys, we're moving the operation to my house now.

After many recent gigs, we're taking a couple weeks' break to work on songs and get our So Cal
July tour together. There's a couple dates we need help filling in so sound off if you can help.

This summer we are recording an EP of new material in some studio, on tape.

Thanks to our So Cal opps agent Pierce, you can now purchase the Zims-Zims album at
Sea Level Records, Aron's Records, and Amoeba music in Los Angeles.
TOUR UPDATE - 26 JULY 2004

All is great in Los Angeles! We just got back from our live on-air performance at KXLU 88.9fm and rocked the airwaves of west LA. Thanks to all folks who came out to Zen Sushi last night after an amazing Echo set by our good man
Garrett Pierce. This tour brought to you by custom Mad Libs & excellent mexican foods. Echo Park's streetside chili-mayo-lime corn cobs are the mostest!!! We got more gigs and a side trip to Malibu on the way. Temperature perfect, humidity perfect. My nor cal roots feel traitorous when I say "We're lovin'  LA".

Oh yeah, that water thing...

(The new song about the flooding of Monticello feels so appropriate being sung from here... mp3 from the radio show up soon)
Come out to a show if you're down here...

TOUR UPDATE - 28 JULY 2004

The Echo show was awesome. We had a blast playing there and lots of people came out for the show. Props to Jessica Dobson and the excellent staff! Can't wait to get back there...

We spent the afternoon in the salty surf of Malibu's Zuma beach. Pinker now than before.

Check out this mp3 of the new "Monticello Song" recorded live on the radio from KXLU!

TOUR WRAP - 3 AUGUST 2004

We have safely returned to the confines of Davis after a great week on the road. Now well-rested and looking back at a series of awesome shows. Thanks to everybody who helped us set up the tour and let us crash at  their place. The Echo & M Bar gigs were excellent... more than we'd hoped for.  We found that Fresno has a hugely supportive music scene with really talented bands. Plans are in the works for more So-Cal and San Joaquin shows in the next few months... stay tuned.

We head to John Vanderslice's
Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco this Friday to record our new EP!

Look for us live at The Hotel Utah on 8/17 & off to the Northwest in mid-September.

Take it easy and get ready for some new sonic treats from your favorite flatland fuzz-pop trio!
WHAT A GREAT FRICKIN' WEEK - 10 AUGUST 2004

Some sort of crazy planetary alignments of bliss have befallen The Zim-Zims this week!
Maybe we're lucky, maybe all the hard work is paying off...

We returned to Northern California to an outstanding live review published in the
San Francisco Bay Guardian. You can check it out
here and here.
Props to Duncan Davidson & Neal Motterham for the words & photographs.

On Friday we made our way to Tiny Telephone and recorded our new EP with Aaron Prellwitz manning the Neve board and the 2" tape machine. All those gigs did us good and we laid down the basics together in the first few takes. Rapid fire overdubs ensued with vocals and a few guitar parts being added late into the night. There's a bit more work to be done next week, then you Zim fans are due for some sweet new tunes.
Expect a release date in November.

We are focusing on finishing this recording and getting it out soon. Two more gigs and then it's mixing and graphics for daaays.
Hotel Utah in SF on 8/17, then 8/26 at the Blue Lamp in Sacramento with top-quality L.A. exports The High Speed Scene & The Vacation!
UPDATE FROM EXILE - SEPTEMBER 16 2004

Greetings form the land of a finishing EP. We've been busy wrapping up the new tracks and are about to get it out to CD replication land... Dana Gumbiner (Deathray) mixed it to psych-frosted perfection last week at the infamous Pus Cavern (Cake) in Sacramento. Then we took it to Ben Adrian at Mr Toad's in SF for some truly phase-aligned mastering. (You'll hear that later.)

I'm busy setting up a re-assault on your senses with several CD release shows for this fall. Gigs are in the works for SF, Sacramento, Davis, and Los Angeles.

More details as they unfurl. Check out the demos of some songs
here.
BACK ON THE STAGE - NOVEMBER 3 2004

...Still awaiting a result on our presidential overthrow outcome as I write this... Cross your middle fingers, folks. Celebrate, or drown your miseries in rock'n'roll at the Delta of Venus on Saturday (Nov 6th). We'll be bring you our new EP "Go Where You Are", chock full of indie tunes about messed romance and flooded towns. Look for the 'rock' (literally) flyers around town this week. This is a FREE show and it's ALL-AGES. Bring the youngins! We'll be joined by the Voodoo Organist, a wizard of keys, drum machines, and Vegas pizazz. The show starts at 8:30, Zims play at 11. Leave me a Fin Du Monde in the drink case or else!

More great shows with brit-poppers Man Of The Year & oscuro-folker Garrett Pierce coming up!
EP RELEASED, MORE ROCKS ON THE HORIZON - NOVEMBER 21 2004

With an amazing slew of shows, us Zim dudes brought y'all the new "Go Where You Are" EP. We trust you are be-headphoned and digging the sounds now. If you'd like to get a copy, please
contact us. We'll have them in stores soon! Thanks to all of you who made it to the gigs... hope you had a much fun as we did!

An impromptu survey at last night's Fox & Goose show revealed that there was NOBODY actually from Sacramento at the venue. What's up Sac-town? Where's the love? We rocked regardless, with a smooth transition out of Garrett's set with Zims backing him on a cover of Low's "Dinosaur Act". We explored the realms of medly with a Cooler>Garden Jam>The Moon>Throw In The River concoction that reads like a Dead setlist....

New press this week in
the Aggie and the Sac News & Review

Our next show is at the G St Pub in Davis on Fri December 10th

WINTER SKIES, CITY LIGHTS HORIZON...     JANUARY 22 2005

We'll be playing on a great show this Friday (Jan 28th) back at
San Francisco's Hotel Utah Saloon. (4th & Bryant, SOMA). On top of the bill are the City's own psych-pop legends,
The Society of Rockets (formerly The Shimmer Kids Underpop Association). Opening the evening are 'Merican's Are Coming's finest, The Proles (from Sac).

GEARING UP FOR SPRING ACTION...     FEBRUARY 22 2005

The "Go Where You Are" EP went to
number 11 on the KDVS charts for February 8th. Many thanks to all the DJ's who spun the sweet sounds. The magic of radio broadcast electronics did a nice mastering job on the recordings, so we put up two mp3's on the music page for your listening pleasure. CHECK 'EM OUT HERE.

We've got some great gigs coming up in the spring: G st Pub, the KDVS stage at UC Davis' Picnic Day (w/ the Losin' Streaks, et. al.), and a return set at the Whole Earth Festival. Several new tunes are in the works, so don't miss the debut performances.

In related 2nd street music scene news, Zims drummer & Gnartoon collaborator
Teddy Briggs (described as a "major dude" on the Davis Wiki)  just released a 20 song solo opus under the moniker Chief Briggum. Find it and revel in the least
"drummer made an album" album I've ever heard.

There are rumors of
Sholi emerging from the under-
ground with a new recording and some great sounds.

Penultimate electrotrash cult
Choadbot will be
devastating San Francisco's 12 Galaxies on March 1st.
Will anyone survive?

Garrett Pierce does one more Davis show at the
Delta of Venus this Thursday (Feb 24th) then plays on
Cool as Folk the next morning before heading to meet
Barry at the Choad gig and running off to  the
Carribean
(via NYC) for a month.                                             @ Hotel Utah SF - Jan 28th 2005

That's it for now. Go dig some spring time. - JAke
MID-SPRING UPDATE...     APRIL 21 2005

Thanks to all of you who made the recent G St & Picnic Day shows good times for all.
We're looking forward to an epic set at the
Whole Earth Festival "W" Stage on May 7th
with Jason Webley & Anton Barbeau. Don't miss it!

Our man Greg Hagel has been recording recent shows in preparation for a
Zim-Zims live album... look for a release date this summer. Contact us if you would like to get a copy of the
"Go Where You Are" EP... $5 for five songs of indie-pop bliss!

Much change blowing around Davis... we've said adios to
Choadbot & the longstanding
twentyfirst-wave unit
Legubitron. Sholi is back with a fervor, &  Boss The Big Bit is just born. Once again, we all realize just how transient
this town is.
Get it while you can, folks!

See you all soon.    - JAke

(past news below...)
That's All Folks!...     May 21 2005

The Zim-Zims as we know it are
calling it quits after this Spring. Unbeliveable after all the hard work and determination of the last three years, but the wave of dis-banding that's been sweeping through town has hit us too. (R.I.P Legubitron, Sudden Oak Death, Choadbot, et. al.) it's an amicable split folks, but the tug of varied musical interests is pulling things apart. It's a near inevitable result in a town as transient as this one. Onward and upward with more intent!

Please come down for our
farewell blow-out gig at the Delta of Venus cafe on Friday July 8th. We'll be having some former band members & old songs appear for a great night of music.

Thanks to all of you who supported us on this amazing roller coaster ride. Never to be forgotten!!

JAke, Teddy, Eric, Mike, Blair, Derek, Casey, et. al.
